EN
Dear Reader,

I share Carl Loewe's, German, Romantic composer, ballad for poem of Goethe, Erlkönig.

A mű szövege:/The lyrics:

Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind;

Mein Sohn, was birgst du so bang dein Gesicht? -
Siehst, Vater, du den Erlkönig nicht?
Den Erlenkönig mit Kron und Schweif? -
Mein Sohn, es ist ein Nebelstreif. -

"Du liebes Kind, komm, geh mit mir!
Gar schöne Spiele spiel ich mit dir;

Was Erlenkönig mir leise verspricht? -
Sei ruhig, bleibe ruhig, mein Kind;
In dürren Blättern säuselt der Wind. -

Willst, feiner Knabe, du mit mir gehn?
Meine Töchter sollen dich warten schön;

"Ich liebe dich, mich reizt deine schöne Gestalt;

Dem Vater grausets, er reitet geschwind,
Er hält in Armen das ächzende Kind,
Erreicht den Hof mit Mühe und Not;
In seinen Armen das Kind war tot.

VIII. Henrik: Pastime with good company

HU

Henrik angol király, akinek a Pastime with good company című művét osztom meg.

HU
Kedves Olvasó!

Mára egy igazi különlegességet hoztam. A mű szerzője Ligeti György, címe Síppal dobbal, nádihegedűvel.

A dal szövege Matthias Claudius, a két művel megegyező című, verse, melynek egy magyar fordítása a következő (fordította: Szalki Bernáth Attila):

A halál és a lányka

A lányka:

Csak tűnj el! óh, csak tűnj el!
Csak menj el, bősz halál!
Ifjú vagyok még, menj el,
Ne érj hozzám, ne bánts!

A halál:

A két kezed nyújtsd csak szép tünemény!
Nem bántlak, tars te jó barátnak.
Ne félj! Hisz vad nem vagyok én,
Aludj el karjaimban lágyan!

Érdekes, hogy mind a versben, mind a dalban a lányka szövege és dallama a zaklatottabb, a zongoraszólam is erősen figurált, Schubert ebben a versszakban a zongora középső és magasabb regisztereit használja, a haláltól való féleme jelenik meg benne, mind a lírában, mind a zenében.
Ezzel szemben a halál versszaka mind zenében, mind lírában a nyugalmat, a békességet sugározza.

Dear Reader,

I write Franz Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, which one of his most famous work. I deal whit both the song and the string quartet.

Franz Schubert was undeniably the greatest master of romantic song, but he composed instrumental music too.

The lyrics of the song was written by Matthias Claudius. The poem, the song and the string quartet title is identical.

Death and the Maiden

The Maiden:

"Oh! leave me! Prithee, leave me! thou grisly man of bone!
For life is sweet, is pleasant.
Go! leave me now alone!
Go! leave me now alone!"

Death:

"Give me thy hand, oh! maiden fair to see,
For I'm a friend, hath ne'er distress'd thee.
Take courage now, and very soon
Within mine arms shalt softly rest thee!"

Both on the poem and both on the song, the maiden lyrics and melody are distracted, it is so interesting, and the piano accompaniment has a tight figuration. In this verse, Schubert used the middle and high register of the piano.
The fear of the Death expressed in this verse, both the poem and both the music.

In contrast, the verse of the Death is calm in music and calm in lyrics. The calmness increased by the minor chords, which can be heard the whole piece, but in this verse Schubert use the lower register of the piano.

A curiosity, you can construe the poem (and the song) as a “love story”, in which the girl refuse the man (the Death), but the men continue the courtship, and try get the love of the girl…

The melody of the sing is recognizable in the second movement of the string quartet, from this fact is unequivocal that, the song and the string quartet have a same feeling and idea.

The question of the key is also interesting. This two pieces are in d minor, which key is an often used by the composers to create the mood of fate.
Finally, let listen to the song and the string quartet.
